The Blechnum occidentale, also known as the Hammock Fern, is an attractive fern native to tropical America. This fern is known for its striking leaf color and growth habit.

Features:

  • Leaf Color: The leathery, 7-8 cm wide fronds emerge in spring with a bronze-pink to salmon-pink hue and gradually turn medium green as they mature and become more leathery.
  • Growth Habit: This fern grows to a height of 30-45 cm and spreads through creeping rhizomes, forming a beautiful colony over time.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Suitable for partial shade to full shade locations.
  • Soil: Plant in well-draining, humus-rich soil.
  • Watering: Water regularly; keep the soil lightly moist but avoid waterlogging.
  • Maintenance: Remove old fronds at the base in autumn or early winter to refresh the plant and highlight the vibrant new growth.
